Saint George, Utah is located southeast of Salt Lake City in Washington County. Saint George began as a cotton growing area by early pioneers.  The area is often referred to as "Utah's Dixie". Saint George serves as the county seat for Washington County. The LDS temple located in Saint George is the longest operating temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The city has around 23% of the county's population. According to the 2000 Census, the population was 20,519.
