Top Ten Home Features
Utah Home Buyers Want!
February 28, 2010
At a recent
home builders show, Paul Cardis of
Avid Ratings presented the top ten home features desired
by new home buyers. Paul's presentation was
to the International Builders' Show
held at the Las Vegas Convention Center January 19
to 22. Paul indicates that the features buyers are
currently looking for are driven by five
key factors--"family togetherness," "cost
effectiveness," "casual living," "entertainment" and
"flexible spaces". These five factors are expected
to drive new home sales for some time down the road.
Avid Ratings conducts an annual survey of home
buyer preferences to identify what is most
important to current home buyers. The survey found
that the kitchen is still the
most important consideration for
new home buyers. Below are the top
ten home buyer considerations:
- Large kitchens with an island.
- Energy efficient appliances, windows and super insulation.
- Home offices.
- Main-floor master suite.
- Outdoor living space.
- Ceiling fans.
- Soaking tub or oversized tub.
- Stone and brick exteriors.
- Walking paths and play areas.
- Two car garages but three is better.
3 Big
Take-A-Ways
First, Utah home builders can anticipate that new home buyers will continue to demand large
family style kitchens. Second, as more and more home owners
bring work home, home office demand will continue to rise. Utah has a high number of self-employed workers.
These entrepreneurs will likely
teach their children these
skills and values which will continue to drive demand for home offices. And third, Utah home owners prefer not to climb stairs in order to go to bed. They want their master bedroom on the main living floor. Main floor living will likely continue to grow in demand well into the future.
