New Kitchen
Trends for Utah Homes
April 10, 2010
What’s
happening in Utah kitchens?
A recent survey of home
designers conducted by the
National Kitchen & Bath
Association (NKBA) found that
some existing kitchen trends
will continue and some new ones
are developing. Utah can expect
to share these national design
trends for 2010 and beyond.
Outlined below are some of the
key trends noted by the NKBA.
Developing
Kitchen Trends for Utah Homes
Traditional Kitchen Design
Styles
will dominate kitchens in new
Utah homes. Contemporary styling
will also be popular.
Kitchen
Colors are trending
to white and off-whites. Brown,
beige and bone hues will also
likely be popular in kitchen
designs for Utah homes.
Combination Cook Tops and Wall
Ovens are gaining in
popularity. Induction cooking is
also gaining in popularity. Gas
ranges still command the highest
demand over electric cooking
surfaces when gas is an
available utility.
Dishwashers Drawers
are expected to continue their
upward climb against the
traditional door that opens
downward. The convenience of the
smaller drawer dishwashers and
their greater energy efficiency
will see these units continue to
climb in demand for years to
come.
Refrigerator Drawers
are another trend in new
kitchens. These refrigerators
camouflaged in under-counter
cabinets add convenience and rid
the kitchen of the large goliath
like refrigerators that have
been popular for decades. The
current favorites--the French
door refrigerator and the
freezer-bottom as well as the
side-by-side refrigerators will
continue to dominate the home
market.
Cherry
Kitchen Cabinets
remain the top choice for wood
cabinets. Maple is also popular
while alder is increasing
steadily in demand. Medium
natural, dark natural, glazed,
and white painted finishes will
continue to be the most common.
On the way out of Utah homes are
other cabinet painted colors and
distressed finishes.
Tile
Floors of ceramic or
porcelain and natural stone
remain the most popular kitchen
flooring. Hardwood flooring will
also be popular.
Pull-out Faucets and Pot Filler
Faucets continue to
climb in demand for new Utah
homes. Nickel finished faucets
will lead in demand followed by
stainless steel.
3 Big
Take-A-Ways
-
Utah homes
will see lighter colors in
their kitchens. Traditional
kitchen design styles will
dominate new home
construction.
-
Dishwasher drawers and
refrigerator drawers will
increase in demand and
popularity.
-
Tile and hardwood floors
will continue as the top
kitchen floor choices in
Utah.
